Interacción 2014 is the 15th edition of the International Conference promoted
by the Spanish Asociación para la Interacción Persona-Ordenador (AIPO), whose
main objective is to promote and disseminate the recent advances in the field
of Human-Computer Interaction. This conference will provide a forum for
discussion and exchange of ideas on design and application of techniques and
methodologies with a multidisciplinary approach.

The 15th International Conference Interacción 2014 will be organized by the
Department of Engineering on Systems and Automatic of University of La Laguna,
and will have the support of the Depatment of Systems of the University of
Cauca and the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology at the King
Abdulaziz University.

The 27th ACM User Interface Software and Technology Symposium
October 5-8, 2014, Honolulu, HI, USA
UIST (ACM Symposium on User Interface Software and Technology) is the premier forum for innovations in the software and technology of human-computer interfaces. Sponsored by ACM's special interest groups on computer-human interaction (SIGCHI) and computer graphics (SIGGRAPH), UIST brings together researchers and practitioners from diverse areas that include traditional graphical & web user interfaces, tangible & ubiquitous computing, virtual & augmented reality, multimedia, new input & output devices, and CSCW. The intimate size and comfortable surroundings make this symposium an ideal opportunity to exchange research results and implementation experiences.
This year, UIST will be held at the Waikiki Marriott Spa and Resort on Waikiki Beach in Honolulu, Hawaii from Oct. 5-8, 2014.
Appropriate topics include but are not limited to:
  • Significantly novel enabling technologies such as innovative input devices, displays, new interaction techniques, or new media that extend the boundaries of traditional interaction, including:

UIST 2014 Submission Deadlines (5PM PDT)

General Information
Accepted papers will be published in the UIST 2014 Conference Proceedings and the UIST 2014 Video Proceedings, and will be included in the ACM Digital Library.
We recommend that prospective authors consult the UIST 2014 CfP and UIST 2014 Author's Guide for more detailed instructions.
We only accept electronic submissions. To submit, see the UIST Electronic Submission site (http://www.precisionconference.com/~sigchi).

Papers (Deadline: Friday April 16, 2014)
Papers are the main medium for conveying new research results at UIST. Submissions are sought that describe original, unpublished work on user interface interaction techniques, services, devices, applications, or metaphors. Please consult the UIST 2014 Author's Guide for information on submission format and policies for previous and simultaneous publications. Note that paper submissions must be anonymous! Authors must remove their names and affiliations from the masthead and refer to their own previous work in third person when possible. See the anonymization policy for more information.
Authors of all accepted papers will also be invited and encouraged to participate in the demo session. All papers should be submitted electronically to:http://www.precisionconference.com/~sigchi.
Paper Length: Papers are of variable length. Paper length must be based on the weight of the contribution. A new idea presented in a compact format is more likely to be accepted than the same idea in a long format. Exceptionally long papers (more than 10 pages) need to include very strong contributions to warrant acceptance. Shorter, more focused papers (called Tech Notes in years prior to 2011) are highly encouraged. Papers with length disproportionate to their contribution will be rejected, for example, user studies that are not integral to the paper contribution and deemed unnecessary by the reviewers would more likely lead to paper rejection than acceptance. In exceptional cases the authors will be requested to shorten papers in the camera ready.
Presentation time during the conference will be allocated according to the weight of contribution. Papers that are 6 or fewer pages will have shorter presentation times than longer papers at the conference (also see discussion on paper length in the above section). However, there will be no distinction made between papers in the program, proceedings or digital library. Exact talk duration will be determined when the program is finalized.
Videos: The submission of supplementary videos is highly encouraged. Especially in cases of interactive systems, videos play a crucial role in convincing the reviewers that the system presented works and works well. Videos should be no more than five minutes long and the total size of your submission (including the paper) is limited to 100MB. See the video guide for details.
Reviewing and rebuttal process: Rigorous reviewing is a UIST hallmark. Each paper will be fully reviewed by 3 external reviewers (experts in the area that are not on the committee). Primary reviewers (from the papers committee) will write meta reviews for all papers. Full reviews will be provided when necessary. On June 23, 2014, authors will be notified of their review results. If reviews fall below the auto-rejection threshold the paper will be rejected at this stage, otherwise, the authors will have the opportunity to submit a rebuttal. Secondary reviewers (from the papers committee) will then write meta reviews for all remaining papers.

  • April 16, 2014: Papers due by 17:00 PDT.
  • June 4, 2014: Auto-rejected papers will get notified.
  • June 4-11, 2014: Authors will have the opportunity to provide a rebuttal.
  • June 23, 2014: Authors will be notified if papers are conditionally accepted or rejected.
All acceptances will be conditional pending changes that the papers committee may suggest or require for the final camera-ready draft. This means that a paper will not be accepted to UIST until authors revise and submit the final draft for approval by the program committee. The length of the camera-ready copy must be less or equal to the length of the original submission unless there is a strong justification for increasing the paper length, which should be agreed upon by the author's primary reviewer. In exceptional cases, the committee may accept a paper on condition that the paper will be shortened.
  • July 7, 2014: 17:00 PDT Authors submit revised conditionally accepted papers to committee for final review.
  • July 9, 2014: Authors will be notified of the final decision.
  • July 14, 2014: Final camera ready due.

Posters (Deadline: July 2, 2014)
Posters provide an interactive forum in which authors can present work to conference attendees during special poster sessions. Posters provide an opportunity to describe new work or work that is still in progress, and will be more lightly reviewed than papers.
All poster submissions must include a two-page poster abstract and a full size poster design, both in PDF format. Unlike paper submissions, poster submissions are not anonymous. The two-page abstract describes the research problem, contribution, and value to UIST attendees. The abstract must be formatted like a two-page technical paper using the SIGCHI Papers Word or Latex Template. The poster design should be 24 inches by 36 inches (either portrait or landscape). The UIST 2005 Poster Example Gallery has ideas and guidelines for great poster designs. Authors are also encouraged to submit an optional short video, less than 50MB in size and no more than three minutes long.
The poster abstract, poster design, and optional video must be submitted electronically to Precision Conference before the due date below. The total size for all files in the submission must be less than 100MB. See the video guide, the author guide, and general submission information for more details about preparing your submission.
All accepted posters will be displayed during a portion of the conference, and at least one author is requested to stand by their poster during poster sessions and give interactive presentations to conference attendees. Accepted poster abstracts will be published together with demonstration and doctoral symposium abstracts in digital form and distributed to conference attendees. Posters and videos may also be published at the authors' discretion.
Please do not submit the same work to both the demo and poster tracks. Double submissions will only be considered as a demo submission and will be automatically rejected from the poster track.

Demonstrations (Deadline: July 2, 2014)
Peer-reviewed demonstrations show early implementations of novel, interesting, and important interaction concepts or user interface systems. They can also serve to showcase commercial products not previously described in the research literature. Demonstrations should be brief, so that they can be shown repeatedly. We particularly encourage demos with which attendees can interact.
Accepted demonstration abstracts will be published together with posters and doctoral symposium abstracts and made available digitally to conference attendees. UIST will showcase accepted demos at the evening demo reception. We will also invite authors of accepted papers to present their work at the demo reception.
A demo submission should follow the official SIGCHI conference publication paper format, and should be no more than two pages in length. Note that demo submission, unlike paper submission, is not anonymous.
Note: the demo submission includes a (mock-up) photo of the demonstration showing the envisioned setup (demo hardware components, tables, chairs, lights and other equipment), as well as the demonstrators alongside conference attendees interacting with the demo. Please label and annotate all parts of the image(s) so that reviewers and organizers get a good understanding of your setup. Conference organizers will also better be able to consider your requirements when organizing the demonstration space at the conference. Submitting an accompanying video is optional, but highly encouraged. Any submitted video should be no longer than three minutes and at most 50MB in size.
Demos are non-archival: UIST demos are non-archival and UIST allows resubmission of demos previously shown at other venues. Authors should state previous demo venues in the appropriate box in the upload form and point out differences to previous demos.

Doctoral Symposium (Deadline: July 2, 2014)
The UIST Doctoral Symposium is a forum in which Ph.D. students can meet and discuss their work with each other and a panel of experienced UIST researchers in an informal and interactive setting. We welcome applications from current Ph.D. students studying within the full range of disciplines and approaches that contribute to the UIST community. We will give preference to applicants beyond the proposal stage and well into their dissertation research.
Each applicant should provide a short written paper (no more than four pages in the official SIGCHI conference publication format, as described in theauthors' guide). Note that doctoral symposium submission, unlike paper submission, is not anonymous. This paper should describe ongoing work and might summarize the student's full dissertation work, or highlight a particular part in depth.
The Doctoral Symposium committee will select approximately eight students to participate. Each student will be expected to give a short presentation of their work, which will be followed by extensive discussion with the panel and the other student participants. The symposium will be held on October 5th. In addition, each student is encouraged to present a poster describing his or her work to the full conference; posters will be on display during conference on October 7th and 8th.
Participants will be selected based on their anticipated contributions to the breadth and depth of the intellectual discussions of the symposium.
The symposium will start with an informal dinner on October 4th, continue all the following day, and conclude with poster presentations. Doctoral Symposium abstracts will be published together with poster and demonstration abstracts and made available digitally to conference attendees. Posters may also be published at the participant's discretion. A travel stipend and free registration to the UIST conference will be provided to each participant.

Student volunteers will be required to help set up and perform needed work during the conference. Duties include: bag stuffing, registration desk, AV assistance, poster and demo setup, badge checking, break monitoring, etc. Volunteers will also need to be available during the conference if tasks come up. SVs usually get to attend most of the sessions, even when working. There will be approximately 14 scheduled hours per SV.
Arriving and Leaving: SVs need to be available to help throughout the conference. You will need to arrive on or before Saturday afternoon (Oct. 4) for the SV orientation and should not leave the hotel until sessions end on Wednesday (Oct. 8). Also, we strongly encourage you to put off leaving until as late as you possibly can, because it's traditional to have a small party for student volunteers on Wednesday evening. The time and place for this party will be announced when we know all the student volunteers' travel plans.

Accommodation: We will not be able to provide free accommodation, but we will help you team up with other student volunteers for sharing rooms and we will provide a list of hotels with affordable room rates.

Student Innovation (Deadline: August 7)
Get your thinking caps on and ideas flowing for the fifth annual UIST Student Innovation Contest (SIC). The goal of the contest is to innovate new interactions on state-of-the-art hardware. We give you the hardware, and you show us what you can do.
Contestants will demo their creations at the conference, and the winners will be announced the same day. A jury of UIST-celebrities will select two winners in each of the "most creative" and "most useful" categories, and conference attendees vote for their two favorites in the "people's choice" category.

EICS is the sixth international conference devoted to the engineering of
usable and effective interactive computing systems. Systems of interest
will include traditional workstation-based interactive systems, new and
emerging modalities (e.g. gesture), entertaining applications (e.g.
mobile and ubiquitous games) and development methods (e.g. extreme

EICS focuses on methods, techniques and tools that support designing and
developing interactive systems. The Conference brings together people
who study or practice the engineering of interactive systems, drawing

The conference proceedings are published by the ACM and appear in the

*Call for Late Breaking Results*

Late breaking results submissions (6 pages) should report on relevant research results, which are more focused and less validated than those reported in full papers. Accepted submissions will be presented in the main conference program and published in the conference proceedings. Based on time constraints and the nature of the contribution, accepted submissions will be presented as short talks or posters, all being published in the Proceedings as 6-page papers. It is important to note that late breaking results should be submitted as camera-ready papers. **Call for *Demonstrations*

Demonstration submissions (4 pages) should describe how innovative systems work, such as a demonstration of a design or development tool or technique or innovative application. Demonstration submissions should summarize the system's significance and its performance and should include at least two screen shots. Accepted submissions will be published in the conference proceedings and their systems demonstrated in the conference demonstration session. **Call for *Doctoral Consortium*

Doctoral Consortium submissions (4 pages) should present a PhD thesis topic motivated by aims and goals, supported by some work in-progress and that present original, sound, and advanced results in order to address a well-defined problem. The submission should be accompanied with a free-form CV of the PhD candidate. Accepted submissions will be presented during a special session dedicated to the Doctoral Consortium and authors will be invited to present a poster of their work during a session during the main conference. **Call for *Tutorials*

Tutorials present an opportunity for leading researchers and practitioners to promote relevant aspects of engineering interactive computing systems. They will be selected by a panel of referees and will be held only if they attract the required minimum number of participants.
Tutorials will be chosen on the basis of the quality of presentation and the value to the audience. Please note that tutorial submissions are open-reviewed and should not be anonymized.

Special Track “EnGendering Technologies”


The growing power of Technology has been shaping our global societies, our lives and relationships in the last decades. At the same time, we must not forget that the values, roles and stereotypes in our societies also contribute to shape the way we use and produce technologies. We need to approach this bidirectional influence from a gender perspective capable of understanding and measuring it. There is a large body of research from a variety of disciplines on female under-representation in science and technologies, which also cares about “gender blindness” on technological design. Its results suggest that the problem is a complex one, plagued with dilemmas and paradoxes.

Under-representation in ICT, gender roles and stereotypes as mechanisms of exclusion and social reproduction, gender asymmetries in career trajectories of women and men, cultures in technological design as well as the rights of women in Internet are some of the many issues which show the urgent need to tackle the analysis of these technological factors and to re-dimension their global consequences on women's lives.

Women have made tremendous progress in education and the workplace during the past 50 years. Even in historically male fields such as business, law, and medicine, women have made impressive gains. In scientific areas, however, women’s educational gains have been less dramatic, and their progress in the workplace moves at a slow pace. In an era when women are increasingly prominent in medicine, law, and business, why are so few women becoming scientists and engineers?

EnGendering technologies means promoting egalitarian participation in education, design, production and use of technologies, especially in ICT, but also demanding innovative and more inclusive thinking, process and products. Technology and society conform each other: symbolic and cultural meanings guide the process of constructing technologies and in reverse they delineate new cultural images and practices. Values, social relations, and world visions become inscribed in technologies, and shape and maintain gender ideologies and identities, reproducing the idea that women are strange to the world of technology, which is historically false. Changing the discourses and practices and values in the process of design and educational system should be the key to redefine the traditional gendered relations with technology. The aim is to achieve better ICT as practices and products in order to promote positive gender impact.

Human agency, users and designers, occupy now the center of the stage to promote a technological and cultural change, and women must participate in that conforming process. New insights speak about socio-technical design, a view in which the new user of ICT is the community. Gendering that creative process means participating in the design of a better common future.

Submission Guidelines

All contributions will be reviewed by a “double-blind” paper evaluation method.  Authors are kindly requested to send the paper without any reference to any of the authors. So, please, remove the author's personal details, the acknowledgements section and any reference that may disclose the author's identity. Papers not satisfying these conditions will be rejected without reviews.

All contributions will be written following the ACM template. The first anonymous version must be submitted in PDF. (Pending approval of publication of proceedings in the ACM DL).

Authors should submit an original paper written in Spanish, Portuguese or English in any of the following submission categories:

* Conference Scope

The Interfaces and Human Computer Interaction (IHCI) 2014 conference aims to address the main issues of concern within Interface Culture and Design with a particular emphasis on the affective aspects of design, development and implementation of interfaces and the generational implications for design of human and technology interaction. This conference aims to explore and discuss innovative studies of technology and its application in interfaces and welcomes research in progress, case studies, practical demonstrations and workshops in addition to the traditional submission categories. * Paper Submission

This is a blind peer-reviewed conference. Authors are invited to submit their papers in English through the conference submission system by April 4, 2014. Submissions must be original and should not have been published previously.

* Important Dates:

- Notification to Authors (1st call - extension): 5 May 2014
- Final Camera-Ready Submission and Early Registration (1st call - extension): Until 30 May 2014

* Paper Publication

The papers will be published in book and electronic format with ISBN, will be made available through the Digital Library available at http://www.iadisportal.org/digital-library/showsearch.

The conference proceedings will be submitted for indexing to INSPEC, EI Compendex, Thomson ISI, ISTP and other indexing services.

Some of the best papers will be eligible to be extended and enhanced as book chapters for inclusion in a book to be published by IGI Global.

The best papers will also be selected for publishing as extended versions in the IADIS International Journal on WWW/Internet (ISSN: 1645-7641) and in the IADIS International Journal on Computer Science and Information Systems (ISSN: 1646-3692), and also in journals from INDERSCIENCE Publishers.
